Vegetable chips are crisps made from vegetables or root crops instead of potatoes, such as taro, okra, sweet potato or carrot. Many are vacuum fried: frying under low pressure lets the oil cook the pieces at a lower temperature, which helps keep more of the vegetable’s colour and flavour. It is a subcategory of chips.
The Thai brand Greenday makes the taro chips and okra chips reviewed here, and Goody’s Crispy Chilli is a crunchy fried chilli snack that can also be eaten with rice. Greenday’s taro chips list only taro, rice bran oil, sugar, salt and maltodextrin.
Seasonings and coatings can add allergens; Goody’s Crispy Chilli, for example, contains sesame.
