Seaweed snacks are made from nori, an edible red seaweed pressed into thin sheets and best known as the wrap for sushi. For snacking, the sheets are fried or roasted with oil and seasoning until crisp, giving a light, shattering crunch and a savoury taste of the sea.
Crispy seaweed is one of Thailand’s best-known snacks, and its most famous brand is Taokaenoi. SeekSnack has reviewed Taokaenoi’s big-sheet crispy seaweed in spicy, cheese and Caesar salad flavours. Seaweed also shows up as a flavour elsewhere, from Pringles made with Taokaenoi to Dozo rice crackers.
Seaweed naturally contains salt and iodine, and cheese-flavoured sheets may contain milk in the seasoning.
