Low-salt chips are potato chips seasoned with less salt than a brand’s standard recipe, labelled with terms such as “light salted”, “lightly salted” or “reduced salt”. The potatoes, oil and cooking method stay the same, so the texture stays the same and only the seasoning changes. It is a subcategory of potato chips.
The example on SeekSnack is Dirty Potato Chips Light Salted, a kettle-cooked chip from Utz’s Dirty brand.
“Low salt” is a relative claim: how much sodium counts as low or reduced depends on local labelling rules, and a lightly salted chip can still contain a fair amount. The nutrition panel, which gives sodium per serving, is the place to compare packs.
