Seaweed seasoning gives a snack the toasty, salty, ocean-like taste of roasted nori. Typically it combines dried seaweed flakes or powder with salt, sugar and flavour enhancers such as MSG and ribonucleotides; depending on the recipe it may also include soy sauce powder, yeast extract, garlic, or a little fish or seafood extract for depth.
It is the flavouring of Pringles - Classic Seaweed X TaoKaeNoi, a collaboration between Pringles and the Thai crispy seaweed brand Taokaenoi. Here the seasoning is dusted over stackable crisps made from dried potato, corn flour and starch, so the seaweed taste comes from the powder rather than from whole seaweed sheets.
Because seaweed seasonings can contain soy sauce (soy and usually wheat), fish or crustacean ingredients, their allergen content varies from one product to another and is shown in the allergen statement on the can.
