Rice is the grain of the rice plant, Oryza sativa, and the staple food of Thailand and much of Asia. In snacks it is used whole, broken or ground, then cooked and puffed, baked or fried so that its starch expands into a light, airy crunch. Its mild, slightly sweet flavour makes a neutral base for bold seasonings.
On SeekSnack, rice is the first ingredient of Carada Rice Ball Cuttlefish (Squid), where it is combined with corn and seasoned with squid, chilli and spices. It also appears in the nori seaweed version of the same snack.
Rice contains no gluten, which is one reason it is a popular base for snacks made without wheat. A finished snack can still contain wheat, milk, seafood or other allergens through its seasoning, so the full ingredient list tells the whole story.
This page also groups rice flour, so snacks made with rice in either form are listed here.
