Creamer, also called non-dairy creamer or coffee whitener, is a powder designed to stand in for milk or cream. It is usually made by spray-drying an emulsion of glucose syrup solids and vegetable fat, often palm or coconut, with emulsifiers and stabilisers. Many creamers also contain sodium caseinate, a protein from milk that helps keep the fat evenly dispersed.
In snacks and chocolate-flavoured coatings, creamer gives a creamy, milky mouthfeel and a paler colour at a lower cost than milk powder, and it keeps well.
Despite the “non-dairy” name, creamer can contain milk protein, which matters for people with a milk allergy; the ingredient list shows whether it does. On SeekSnack it appears in Chocobi Corn Snacks - Chocolate, listed after palm oil and before cocoa powder.
