Seaweed, especially nori, the dried sheets used for sushi, gives snacks a savoury, slightly sweet taste of the sea. Snack makers add it as seaweed flakes or powder, and in Thailand the flavour is closely tied to Taokaenoi, the crispy seaweed brand.
The examples are Pringles - Classic Seaweed X TaoKaeNoi, Lay’s Flat Potato Chip Seaweed Gochujang Sauce Flavor, the Carada Rice Ball Nori Seaweed and a Dozo Japanese rice cracker with seaweed. Snacks made of seaweed, such as Taokaenoi’s crispy seaweed sheets, are in the seaweed category.
Seaweed snacks are often salty, and their seasonings can contain soy sauce, so check the ingredients if you avoid soy or wheat.
