Lychee is a tropical fruit with rough red skin and juicy, translucent white flesh that tastes sweet and floral, a little like rose and grape. It grows widely in southern China and Southeast Asia, including northern Thailand, and is a popular flavour for sweets, drinks and jellies in the region. It is one of the fruit flavours.
The example is Mildy Marshmallow Filled With Lychee from European Food in Thailand. As in most snacks, the lychee taste comes from flavouring rather than fruit: the label lists nature-identical flavour and the colour INS 127, erythrosine.
The marshmallow is made with gelatin, usually from pork or beef, and contains milk powder.
