Chili is a spice made from dried chili peppers, and as a snack seasoning it is usually blended with paprika, cumin, garlic, onion and salt for a warm, savoury heat. Strength varies a lot: some snacks are only mildly spiced, others are made to be hot. Chili is one of the spicy flavours; snacks sold on the taste of a hot sauce are under hot sauce.
The examples include Wise Chili Olé Chili & Spice Flavor Potato Chips from Wise Foods, an American snack maker, and many Thai snacks. In Thailand chili often comes paired with lime, as in Lay’s Flat Potato Chips Chili Lime Flavor, or with sweetness, as in Pretz Thai Chili Paste and Dozo sweet chilli rice crackers.
Chili seasonings can include milk powder or wheat-based carriers, so the ingredient list is worth checking if you have allergies.
