A pie is a pastry case wrapped around a filling. The snack-sized version sold by fast-food chains is a hand pie: a rectangle of pastry fried or baked until crisp, with a hot, sweet filling inside. McDonald’s made the format famous with its apple pie, and in Thailand the chain has sold local fillings such as corn and taro.
The example is McDonald’s Chocky Banana Pie, a limited-time pie from McDonald’s Thailand’s Minions promotion in mid-2020, filled with dark chocolate and mashed banana. The review found a crisp crust and a gooey, mildly sweet filling.
Pastry pies contain wheat, and chocolate fillings typically include milk; restaurant items may also be prepared near other allergens.
