Snack cakes are small, individually wrapped cakes made to keep on a shop shelf for weeks or months. Most start from a light sponge of egg, wheat flour and sugar, then add a cream filling, a jam layer or a chocolate coating. They are softer and moister than biscuits, and are often eaten with coffee or tea.
Many of the cakes on SeekSnack come from Thailand, such as Euro Choco Pie with marshmallow and raspberry jam and the Hokkaido milk Euro Cake from European Food. Others come from further away: Today Snowball cake from Turkey, and Japanese souvenir cakes such as a melon steam cake from Hokkaido, which also has its own sponge cakes subcategory.
Egg, wheat and milk appear in almost every recipe here. The marshmallow layer in Choco Pie is set with gelatin, which is usually made from pork or beef.
