Lay’s is a potato chip brand founded by Herman Lay, who started a snack business in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1932 and gave his chips the Lay’s name in 1944. His company merged with the Frito Company in 1961 to form Frito-Lay, which became part of PepsiCo in 1965.
In Thailand, Lay’s are made by Pepsi-Cola (Thai) Trading Co.,Ltd., which has produced snacks in Thailand since 1995, at plants in Lamphun and Ayutthaya, and sources most of its potatoes from Thai farms. The Thai range is wide: flat, ridged Lay’s Rock, stackable Lay’s Stax and the shaped Lay’s Play. Many flavours are made for Thai tastes, such as Esan Hot Pot, chili lime, hot chilli squid and pizza flavours made with Pizza Hut.
Plain potato chips contain few allergens, but seasonings vary: Stax are made with wheat starch, and seafood and cheese flavours can contain crustaceans, molluscs or milk.
